KOKO Camden, London – Project Case Study

Audiotek - Case Study -KOKO Camden

A brief history of KOKO Camden.

The iconic KOKO Camden venue, formally known as Camden Palace, has a fascinating history of entertainment, art, and culture that spans many decades. Estimated to be over 500 years old, this Georgian building became the Camden Hippodrome theatre in 1900. The theatre staged performances including music hall variety and circus acts for Londoners for the half-century that followed. In 1973 it was turned into an intimate live music venue, and then later acquired its current name of KOKO Camden in 2004. To this day it is still standing strong and attracting thousands of people from all around the world who come to experience the vibrant atmosphere and enjoy some of Europe’s best artists with thrilling live music and DJs.

The projects we undertook for KOKO Camden.

KOKO Camden asked us to undertake a challenging task at the height of the Covid pandemic. We were tasked with designing and supplying an audio control system that would be compatible with the equipment already installed by other providers. This was no easy task given the supply and delivery issues we faced whilst trying to work through the pandemic. We accepted the challenge wholeheartedly and worked diligently to produce a solution that blended the separate components of the venue perfectly. Our integrated system allowed KOKO Camden to have the crystal clear audio quality they needed, in key areas.

The KOKO social development.

We designed the entertainment lighting systems for the KOKO Social development, which also then led to managing the supply and installation of the tech. This resulted in an infrastructure being installed that provided flexibility within the space, with lighting fixtures also installed for Ellen’s Bar and further facilities throughout the building.

We ensured that the core infrastructure was installed with state-of-the-art lighting fixtures and tested lighting bars which met regulatory requirements as needed. With our experience, dedication and commitment to quality, the project was successfully completed.

Further KOKO project progression.

As the project evolved, we were approached and asked to take on the task of providing live video distribution, audio routing & control, and large format displays. We responded quickly by increasing our onsite team and delivering these specialised systems to complement the existing infrastructure. Our work was extremely positively received and emphasised our commitment to meeting customer needs by providing innovative solutions that are carefully designed and integrated.

Technology we used for our KOKO projects.

We used a range of equipment to complete the various projects for KOKO, such as:
• Avolites TitanNET & Quartz
• Chauvet Professional Lighting Fixtures
• QSC Q-SYS DSP
• Wyrestorm Network HD AVoIP
• Samsung Displays

Audiotek - Working through the Covid pandemic.

These projects ran from 2019-2022, and we faced many delays and challenges such as equipment availability and onsite safety & working conditions. However, we were able to overcome these challenges and mobilise on extremely short notice to meet our client’s needs. We designed solutions that used the already specified infrastructure, and (crucially) were available during this challenging time.

Our commitment to excellence, innovation and flexibility was really tested but we were able to progress with minimal interruptions and offer solutions that delivered a level of service that went above our client’s expectations.

We are committed to providing the highest quality work with innovation and flexibility. We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with KOKO in the future. For more information on any of our projects or the audio/visual services that we provide please contact us.
